The Hunger Games Book

So I caved and began the novels before watching the film. The first one was amazing. What people don't tell you when describing the books, are all the whys. When I first was told about this book it was presented so simply to me. Kids being forced to fight to the death. It sounded horrific and awful. And it is, but the WHY is what drives the novels. The first book is more about the games themselves. And the second book is most certainly about that but also about the The victory tour. And the third seems to be about where they ended up. But the core of the book is not about children fighting to the death. It's more about surviving, government and romance/friendships. There is no Democracy for Panem. You don't upset the Capitol. You survive by living by their rules. President Snow doesn't like being laughed at. Death is often times the punishment for breaking the law. Well depends on what law, but if caught you could die. I hear a lot of Americans complain about how our government is run, and this and that, and who not to vote for. We're a lot more free than almost anyone. Sometimes I think we don't realize how lucky we are. The book is not so much about kids between the ages of 12 and 18 fighting each other until the last one stands. It's about WHY they do. It's about what occurred to cause The Games (the capitols sick entertainment) It's about The Games being punishment for the people dressed up as entertainment. It's about A girl named Katniss, and her hatred for all things Capitol and her need to survive. Even BEFORE The Games. The girl who volunteered to partake in them for her sister. If you haven't read them you should.
